Promod Haque wins leadership award in venture investing

Promod Haque has been named as the 2002 winner of the siliconindia Leadership award in venture investing. Haque is being conferred the award for his role in investing in 45 companies, of which 17 went public and 17 were acquired.

FREMONT: Haque focuses on investments in enterprise software and communication technologies. The total market capitalization of Promod's investments is more than $35 billion. Haque will moderate a CXO roundtable along with Netscaler chief executive officer B. V. Jagadeesh at the siliconindia Annual Conference, to be held on 16 November. The CXO Roundtable is an invitation-only, closed-door gathering, where founders of business and technology companies share a platform to talk about issues close to their hearts. This is where you will witness the unfolding of the current thoughts and strategies in the minds of top executives. This is a forum in which you can discuss the key challenges presented by the current economic conditions. Haque and B. V. Jagadeesh are part of a panel of three leaders, who will moderate this high-powered Roundtable. Haque was an early investor and a board member of Cerent Corporation (acquired by Cisco), Siara Systems (acquired by Redback Networks) and OnDisplay (acquired by Vignette). He seeded Extreme Networks in 1996. His current investments include, AmberPoint, Inkra Networks, Resonext Communications, Virtela Communications, Winphoria Networks and Zettacom. Other important investments and previous board seats include Tivoli Systems (acquired by IBM), Forte Software (acquired by Sun Microsystems), Kiva Software (acquired by Netscape Communications), Information Advantage (acquired by Sterling Software), and Showcase Corporation (acquired by SPSS). Prior to Norwest, Haque spent 18 years in various operational roles ranging from product development, marketing, chief operating officer and chief executive officer at various public and private companies - Siemens International, Thorn EMI, Emergent Technologies and Dimensional Medicine, Inc. He received a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Delhi, India. He holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Northwestern University and an MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management, where he serves on the advisory board.
