Prominent Malaysian-Indian entrepreneur passes away

Kuala Lumpur: Gujarat-born Malaysian Indian entrepreneur Harsukhlal Maganlal Kamdar, a household name in textiles and apparel, has died of old age. He was 81. The Indian entrepreneur died Saturday, reported the New Straits Times Sunday. He was founder-chairman of the Kamdar Group that deals in manufacture and retailing business. He leaves behind wife Lalita H. Kamdar. The couple had no children. Born in Rakjot, Gujarat, Kamdar came to Malaysia at the age of 14. He worked in Singapore and later set up a two-storey shop with his brother Balvantrai in Ipoh in the 1950s. It was initially known as B.A. Lalaji but was changed to B.H. Kamdar and later, just Kamdar. The network presently has 1,300 employees. "He treated his business as a hobby rather than work. He was also known as someone who was not afraid to make mistakes and dared to take risks," the New Straits Times said.
