Now, CEOs turn to coaches to learn business tactics
Mumbai: Employee training is an old phrase, the new trend is CEO coaching, whereby the corporate captains are opting to learn the tactics of reining their business profitably. And for a few hours of consultation to run the business, they are shelling out a whopping Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh on executive coaches. The days of senior executives playing mentor to the CXOs are gone as in today's time, there is an ardent need for the corporate chieftains to balance between the markets of both East and West. This demands a better knowledge of the work culture of both the regions. Going by R Suresh, Managing Director, Stanton Chase India, even CEOs trained abroad need help when it comes to tweaking business models that would suit India and other Asian countries. The trend of coaches has surged with expatriate population thronging the country as top level executives in the firms. The consultants not only coaches the CXOs on the professional traits rather they also serve to solve the personal issues which is common in the family owned businesses in India. PPC Worldwide, for one, has psychologists, besides management counsellors, to guide CEOs through a personal crisis. Consultations are also done via teleconferencing, Kumud Rajendran, India head for the coaching and counselling firm, says, adding, the firm did brisk business during the slowdown as companies sought help to tide over the crisis. Also, it isn't just the mid-tier firms whose CEOs are seeking professional help. The trend is catching on in big corporate, too.
