Herzliya (Israel): Prime Sense, a fabless semiconductor start-up, has announced that it has raised $9 million in an A round from Gemini Israel Funds and Genesis Partners. In the course of the A-round Inon Beracha joined the company as the CEO and Dr. Orna Berry, former Israeli Chief Scientist, joined as Chairperson. Avi Hasson from Gemini and Ron Yachini from Genesis have taken positions on the Board. Prime Sense was founded by a team of entrepreneurs led by Aviad Maizels, former CEO and President to date, and Alex Shpunt, CTO. Aviad hails, along with his team, from an R&D section of the IDF. Alex has over nine years of experience at Israeli DARPA, PTC (Parametric Technology Corporation), and Radvision. Rounding out the team are Dmitri Rais, Ophir Sharon and Tamir Berliner. "A good understanding of the market, bright team, hard work imbued with persistency and great partners have led to good market responses and a successful A-round," said Aviad Maizels. "Prime Sense's technology enables paradigm shift in numerous vertical markets in the way machines will interact with people," said Inon Beracha, former CEO of DSP Group and Co-Founder and COO of Ceragon Networks. "Gemini invested seed capital six months ago, based on the technology and the bright founding team led by Aviad and Alex," said Gemini General Partner Avi Hasson. During the seed period Gemini worked very closely with the company on positioning, choosing the target market and refining the business model.
