Postal service centres to be opened in Jharkhand

Ranchi: The Jharkhand postal department will set up Pragya Kendras (common service centres) to help villagers seeking information about various government schemes. "To begin with, the service centres will be opened in 60 villages of six districts - Ranchi, Latehar, Gumla, Jamshedpur, Chaibasa and Seraikela Kharswan," said Anil Kumar, Director of the Jharkhand postal department. Kumar said: "The service centres will be opened from May. In the second phase, such centres will be opened at Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Dumka and Deoghar. In all, we plan to open such centres in 4,000 villages of the state." There will be a nominal charge for the information. The CSCs seek to transform rural areas through the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and deliver a host of government and private services to the rural people at their doorstep. The service centres, linked with internet facilities, will make villagers aware about the different government schemes so that they get the maximum benefits. "When these service centres are opened, the villagers will not have to visit block and district level government offices to know about the schemes and get other information. All kinds of information related to micro credit, investment, birth and death certificates, and government schemes will be available at out centres," said Kumar.
