PortalPlayer to set up facility in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: PortalPlayer, Inc., a leading supplier of semiconductor, firmware and software solutions for personal media players and display-enabled notebook computers, announced that it’s going to set up a facility in Hyderabad to expand its operations. The new facility is designed to support up to 300 employees, the new facility will be located on APIIC (Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation) IT Park. The facility is expected to be operational by October 2006. The company’s President and Managing Director said, “PortalPlayer Hyderabad houses some of the brightest engineers in the world working on portable multimedia technology. This facility will enable us to double in size, adding to our talented group of software, firmware, and semiconductor engineers.” The company’s product portfolio includes personal media players, personal media displays and personal wireless entertainment. Engineers at the PortalPlayer Hyderabad facility will contribute to core technology and product development across all of these divisions. The company plans to recruit about 100 employees for the Hyderabad facility in 2006. These new jobs along with the new facility will support the local economy with a total investment by PortalPlayer of approximately $5.2 million.
