Plea on late-running trains dismissed

New Delhi: Dismissing a public interest petition on trains often running late, the Delhi High court Wednesday said it does not have a magic wand to solve all problems.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah pulled up the petitioner who was seeking directions to the government to run trains on time. The judge said: "If you have a magic wand, give it to us. I have also travelled by train. Sometimes trains get delayed but it does not happen always."
Ramnath Garg, through his advocate Sugriv Dubey, had filed the petition alleging that trains get delayed due to deliberate and intentional practices of railway employees.
"Trains are not organised for timely running due to negligence of the employees and a major reason is that if the trains are late then concerned employees get extra benefits (overtime) for their duty beyond their hours," the petitioner contended.
Garg also said Indian Railways do not provide the basic amenities to passengers who suffer due to the late-running of trains.
