KOLKATA: Phoenix Software Limited (PSL) is setting up India's first LEED-certified green information technology (IT) infrastructure project in Kolkata to give a further boost to the booming IT and ITeS sectors. The IT park, 'Technopolis', would be the first Leadership, Energy, Environment and Design (LEED) certified project in the country, developed as per the guidelines of the U.S. Green Building Council. Announcing this, PSL Director Rahul Saraf said the project, which would have a 4,25,000 sq ft of workspace, would come up at Salt Lake by June, 2006. He said, the project is designed to reduce the energy bills by over 30 percent compared to conventional IT parks, thus, will enable energy savings amounting to 87.50 lakh units of power per annum. Consequently, total carbon emission would be reduced by 7,500 tones per annum, Saraf said, adding, “The total potential savings through energy bills, water management as also carbon trading could be around $11.36 million over the next 10 years.” The innovative project would play a major role in attracting more IT investments into the State, he added.
