Pakistan not probing official agencies' link to Mumbai: India

New Delhi: Nearly three months after the Mumbai terror attacks, Mumbai terror attacks,India says Pakistan needs to clear the air on the alleged involvement of its official agencies in the carnage and that Islamabad is yet to share any information about the suspects it has detained on suspicion of being involved in the mayhem. "Given the overwhelming evidence that we have, I am entitled to presume that official agencies (of Pakistan) were involved (in the Mumbai attacks)," Home Minister P. Chidambaram told Karan Thapar's 'Devil's Advocate' programme that CNN-IBN will broadcast Sunday. This presumption can be "rebutted only if evidence to the contrary is available in the investigation", the home minister maintained. "That I cannot say now. That will require investigation on Pakistan soil," Chidambaram replied when asked whether the evidence about the involvement of Pakistan's official agencies in the Mumbai attacks is "conclusive or very suggestive". "It will require going to the controllers, the handlers and then interrogating them and finding out that whether they had masters of their own. That access has not been given to us," he said. He also underlined that Islamabad has not shared any information it may have managed to extract from the interrogation of people detained in Pakistan in connection with 26/11. India will "apply pressure" and use "coercive diplomacy" to ensure that the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks are brought to justice, the home minister stressed. India had in January submitted a detailed dossier pointing to the involvement of elements in Pakistan in the Nov 26-29, 2008 Mumbai strikes. In February, Pakistan admitted that part of the Mumbai conspiracy was hatched on its territory and posed a set of 30 questions on the Indian dossier. India replied to the queries earlier this month but is yet to see any tangible movement on Islamabad's part to bring the perpetrators of the carnage to justice.
