PM out of Lokpal ambit, Hazare to fast again
Bangalore: The Union cabinet cleared the draft of Lokpal Bill draft after discussing both Team Anna and the govt's versions of the bill. The prime minister has been kept out of Lokpal purview. The bill will be introduced during the monsoon session of Parliament. The higher judiciary has not been included in Lokpal's purview; but will come under the Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill. The Lokpal will have separate wings on inquiry and investigation but no power to prosecute. The prosecution to be done by judiciary. The ten member Lokpal committee including the chair person will have 50 percent of the members from the judiciary. The retired chief justice of Supreme Court or high court will be the chairperson. The anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare's version of lokpal bill has not been approved. Team Anna demanded that the prime minister and the entire judiciary should be brought under the lokpal bill which is missing in the government's version. Anna Hazare finds this bill weak and ineffective. He has written to the Prime Minister that he wants a stringent anti-corruption law and wants the Lokpal bill to be passed in parliament by August 15th. He also warned that he will go for indefinite fast from August 16th if they dither his suggestions on the Lokpal Bill.
