PC sales touch new high

BANGALORE: According to IDC's India Quarterly PC Market Tracker, 2Q 2006, August 2006, the Indian PC market has grown phenomenally with the AMJ quarter witnessing a 19 percent year-on-year growth. The sales reached 12.5 lakh units during the quarter, including over two-lakh notebook PCs, according to the study. The top three rankings in the overall PC market remained same, with HP retaining the top spot with a market share of 20 percent, followed by HCL (14 percent) and Lenovo (10 percent). HP was the leader in both desktop PC shipments as well as notebook PC shipments. In the commercial desktop PC category, HCL topped the ranks followed by HP, though Lenovo and Dell grew faster at sequential growth rates of 24 percent and 80 percent respectively. The SMB segment also saw a 102 percent year-on-year growth in notebook PC shipments. The increasing affordability is believed to behind this phenomenal growth story.
