Chicago: A group from the local chapter of the Indian National Overseas Congress (INOC) visited Mukta Dutta Tomar, the consul general of India in Chicago to discuss several issues pertaining to the consulate's relationship with the local community in a meeting held at Fairmont Hotel in Chicago, reports Desi Talk. The group included more than 35 members, including Vikrant Singh, president of the local chapter, participated in the meeting in downtown Chicago. Jassi Khangura, a legislator from Punjab was also present in the meeting. Vikrant Singh said that NRIs have poured billions of dollars of investment into India since its market reform began to deliver growth and ever since then they are demanding a greater voice in the government to protect their involvements and to clean up a corrupt and inefficient bureaucracy. Khangura spoke about NRIs being a precious resource for India and said New Delhi needed to do more to give confidence to their participation, be it venture in equity or industry, charitable, social and educational funding or by simply being better ambassadors for India. "I will not stop fighting for NRI rights. I want to keep finding ways to give genuine opportunity to people in rural areas so their lives can be improved," quoted Khangure.
