Over 5.5 Million tourists visited India in 2010
New Delhi: Over 5.5 million foreign tourists visited India in 2010, an increase of 8.1 percent over the previous year, parliament was told Friday. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay said : "The foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in India during 2010 were 5.58 million as compared to FTAs of 5.17 million during 2009, showing a growth of 8.1 percent." India is taking various steps to attract tourists from advertising in the country and abroad, to participating in travel fairs and road shows and offering incentives to inbound travellers, he added. Domestic tourist visits in 2009 were 650 million as compared to 563 million in 2008, an increase of 15.5 percent, Sahay said.
