Over 5000 tourists avail visa on arrival facility

New Delhi: Over 5,000 tourists have availed the visa on arrival facility since its launch in January. To attract more foreign tourists, government had launched the Visa on Arrival (VoA) scheme for citizens of five countries - Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, visiting India for tourism purposes. The total number of VoAs issued during October was 523, according to Tourism Ministry data. In September, 471 foreigners availed the scheme to visit the country. While the maximum number of tourists were from New Zealand (211), only two persons availed it from Luxembourg. There were 130 tourists from Japan and 99 from Finland who utilised the VoA scheme in October. A total of 5,016 VoAs were issued since January this year. Maximum number of tourists from Singapore availed the scheme- 1,501, followed by New Zealand (1,328), Japan (1,110), Finland (1,033) and Luxembourg (44).
