BHUBANESHWAR: Ortel Communications Ltd, which provides Internet through cable modems in Orissa, has cut down its costs of surfing to woo low end users in the state. Under the package called Easy Packs, Internet access for 25 hours costs 250. This is the lowest rate for Internet through the cable, said vice president of the company B.P. Rath. The scheme was launched Tuesday. Oritel has over 2,000 clients in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. The new Easy Packs are aimed at clients like students who want to use less and pay less, Rath said. The bandwidth will be the same as any other home use package, he said. Ortel was the first private sector company in India to be granted an Internet Service Provider license by the government in November 1998. It has been providing Internet services via cable through its state of the art hybrid fibre coaxial communications network.
