Bangalore: The year 2010 gave way to the increase of all the major enterprise software vendors. But Oracle grew comparatively faster and surpassed the top five companies like Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, SAP and Symantec which were the top five vendors according to Gartner. "The year 2010 represented a return to solid footing as the enterprise market recovered and expanded in terms of revenue and geographies," said Joanne Correia, Managing Vice President at Gartner. The overall growth of the enterprise market increased upto $20 Billion. The enterprise market was hit by $245 Billion from 8.5 percent. Microsoft maintained its position at the top. Microsoft's revenue was boosted with the introduction of its Windows 7 operating system. This led to a round of upgrades by some enterprise customers. IBM ranked second despite its overall market share dipping slightly to 10.4 percent. If consumer sales of Microsoft's office suites and operating systems were excluded IBM would have ranked first. Apparently, the third vendor, according to size, was Oracle, which showed the strongest growth with revenues 19.4 percent to $23.9 Billion. This was the fastest growth among all the top five. All of the firm's software markets, including business intelligence, security, IT operations, data integration and quality tools, achieved growth.
