NEW DELHI : Eyeing potential of the huge Indian market from an open source perspective, software major Oracle is committed to promote Linux in India besides recommending for the first time globally and locally the use of Linux operating system. "Oracle has an Asia-wide initiative on Linux. India along with China is one of the key countries where the initiative is being pushed", Jamshed Patel, senior director, Linux Programme Office, Oracle, US, said at the Linux Asia 2004 event. "There is a high level of commitment from Oracle to push Linux into Indian market. We have a very large development oragnisation in India and a large number of developers working on Linux while worldwide Oracle Linux developers runs into several hundreds", he said. In future, there will be a lot more push from Oracle on Linux. It is the first time Oracle is actively recommending an operating system globally and in India from its standing as a operating system-neutral company earlier. Linux will be the dominant operating system in India in a few years as it is on low cost infrastructure and more and more people will migrate towards Linux, he said.
