KOCHI: Norway-based Opera Software, a Web browser company, is setting up a development center in chandigarh. Announcing this, the company said in a statement that the center would employ quality assurance testers that support Opera's full range of products. It will also have Opera's 'Open the Web' evangelists, who will help webmasters and developers create sites that are compliant with open standards. For the first year, the center will have about 12 staff, according to a spokesman for Opera. The Chandigarh center will be the fourth center run by Opera that is focused on core development, he added. The company already has development centers in Oslo, and in Linkoping and Gothenburg in Sweden. It also has some engineering staff working on customer support in Tokyo, Beijing, and San Diego in the U.S. A number of Internet technology companies including Google and Yahoo already have development centers in India. Rather than outsourcing, Opera decided that opening a local office would be the most efficient way to improve its products while attracting the most skilled employee base, the company said.
