Onkar Kanwar takes over as FICCI president

NEW DELHI : Onkar S. Kanwar, chairman and managing director of Apollo Tyres, Tuesday took over as the president of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for 2004-05. At the conclusion of the Ficci's 77th Annual Session here, Saroj Kumar Poddar, chairman of the Poddar group, became the chamber's senior vice president, while Wockhardt chairman Habil Khorakiwala was elected its vice president. Kanwar takes over from Yogendra K. Modi. Kanwar's Apollo Tyres is a leading player in the Indian tyre industry and recently entered into a joint venture with Michelin, the world's number one tyre manufacturer with operations in over 170 countries. The Poddar group has promoted various projects including several joint ventures with leading international companies such as Gillette, Duracell and SimonCarves. Wockhardt is a leading player in the pharmaceutical and healthcare business in the country. Khorakiwala is also president of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance - an industry association of 12 top Indian pharmaceutical firms.
