When Savitri's late husband O P Jindal died in a 2005 helicopter crash, the subsequent transfer of wealth made her India's richest woman. Her net worth today is $6 billion. The group has nearly 50 plants in India and abroad, including South American countries like Chile, Bolivia and Peru.
The combined net worth of the twenty women featured in the list is a mammoth $160 billion. They represent industries like manufacturing, finance, real estate and commodities. The two top spots belong to Wal-Mart heiresses Christy Walton and Alice Walton with a net worth of $20 billion and $19.5 billion respectively. Forbes credited Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer for powering through the global recession. It recorded $400 billion in annual sales last year alone.
Last year's number one Liiane Bettencourt who is worth $15 billion is placed at number three this year. Daughter of Eugene Schueller, the founder of L'Oreal, has had a controlling stake of 27 percent in L'Oreal for the last four decades. Last year she was worth $20 billion.
Also in the list are, Susanne Klatten, Birgit Rausing, Jacqueline Mars, Anne Cox Chambers, Abigail Johnson and Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken. Some high profile female billionaires who didn't make it to the list include Oprah Winfrey, J K Rowling and former eBay Chief, Margaret Whitman.

it really feels good when an Indian lady attain such position which is very difficult for ladies to achieve. I appreciate it and i would also like other women to take inspiration from Savitri Jindal.

I ask you all
How many of you pay your taxes?
How many of you planted a single tree?
How many of you taught a single lesson to a poor?
How many of you donated clotes to poor?
How many of u make charity at right place?
How many of you follow traffic rules?
Answer it yourself................
If everyone starts contributing a bit our country will definetly grow........
Stop crying and start acting

dude I don't need to ask myself such questions as i am already part of two NGOs and serving NEEDED people. Also i used to help some orphans so they will least feel the lack of their parents. Though i am a student and don't have much funding but when they need i used to help them. I try to help them as much i can do.
btw i expect others also to contribute something to NEEDED people and help them achieving their goal. You just wait and see there will be many like Savitri Jindal if they will get opportunity which right now they are not getting.

India and people of India("Indians"), have enough patience and tolerance to bare any troubles from outside or even inside, whether it is good or bad we people have every word in the world to criticize others but none when it comes themselves. Corruption, hatred, communal imbalance, rich, poor, caste, religion, etc....... these are all part n parcel of our daily life yet we live together because this is INDIA, A TRUE NATION of MOTHERLINESS, "no matter what you do or what you get still everything is accepted" or else there is no such place on the entire planet where you can live with so many problems, yet we live happily, that is the truth of life my fellow INDIANS, INDIA is always HAPPY for whatever it was, it is and it will be.... BRAVO INDIA BRAVO....."be happy always"........

I don't understand why all reader's are so happy. Its not a wealth she made. Its basically the transfer of the wealth which was created by late O.P. Jindal. Now if kokilaben of reliance had not transferred here inherited wealth from her husband, then she would have been the richest women. My overall point is Forbes should declare the richest man/woman on the basis of wealth made by the individuals rather than being inherited.

Hi Meenakshi, As you said whatever the case may be we love India and India is the Best country in the world. You can read this story with sense of humor.
Even God has a Sense of Humor!
God was in the process of creating the universe.
And he was explaining to his subordinates "Look everything should be
in balance. For example, after every 10 deer there should be a lion.
Look here my fellow angels, here is the country of the United States.
I have blessed them with prosperity and money.
But at the same time I have given them insecurity and tension....
And here is Africa. I have given them beautiful nature.
But at the same time, I have given them climatic extremes.
And here is South America. I have given them lots of forests.
But at the same time, I have given them lesser land so that they would
have to cut off the forests...
So you see fellows, everything should be in balance.
One of the angels asked...
"God, what is this extremely beautiful country here?"
God said....... "Ahah...that is the crown piece of all. "INDIA",
My most precious creation.
It has understanding and friendly People.
Sparkling streams and serene mountains.
A culture which speaks of the great tradition that they live.
Technologically brilliant and with a heart of gold.....
The angel was quite surprised:
"But god you said everything should be in balance."
God replied - "Look at the neighbors I gave them."

It is good to know about the news about Mrs Jindal. Cheers.
Fact it that there are over a million people who are High Net Worth individuals and about 200,000 millionaires in dollar terms in India(Those who earn over a million dollars each year)
Yet in Philanthropy term we are way behind the rest. In the US the Not For Profit Sector raised $ 307 Billion last year and we a mere million dollars.
While we are happy who have all that money they should start thinking about Philanthropy. Look at Warren Buffet. Look at Ratan Tata who gave $ 50 million to Cornell University just 6 months ago.
Lets start this movement as this is THE ONLY WAY WE CAN CHANGE INDIA
