Bangalore: Imagine watching a documentary on TV and getting a print out of the data very next moment - HP labs has made this possible with a technology - TVPrintCast, that enables synchronous delivery of printable data along with the TV feed, on the existing broadcast services. TVPrintCast would be applied to TV-based education, public information, agriculture health, travel, spiritual programs, entertainment, music and advertising. Ajay Gupta, Director, HP Labs, stressed that primary focus of the application is distance learning in which primary schooling, vocational training and informal training would benefit more. HP in a statement to a national daily said the new technology application is about to be commercially launched in India. HP Labs is in talks with set-top-box maker to jointly market the product. Gupta said, "We are trying to improve ways in TV viewing, especially in education through TV. The question we are trying to answer is could we merge visual and data content, then print and retain content?" Education includes a major area of application. Gupta further believes that the primary focus of this application would be distance learning in which primary schooling, vocational training and informal education would benefit most. Some senior officers of Doordarshan, who saw a demo of the technology in a recent conference in February, have expressed interest for their educational channels.
