Now feature phones to have the power of smartphones

Bangalore: Feature phones, a low-end mobile phone that has less computing ability than a smartphone, have many features, but at the same time it has lack of processing power. Feature phones are the mobile phones that have features which are not available in most of the current mobile phones. The feature phones can run on application based on Java or BREW. But it has less advanced programming application programming interface (API). To deal with the problems, Spreadtrum Communications, a semiconductor company based in China, has claimed that it has developed a new chip. The new chip set based on ARM9 CPU will offer JAVA, Internet access, GPS navigation, high-definition video player in feature phones. It also offers a 5 MP camera, 3D and Flash user interface. This multimedia mobile phone solution called as the SC6800H. It will provide processing power to phones that is currently found in entry level smartphones. It has ARM9EJ-S processor core with multimedia and GPU engine that will provide an enhanced user experience in a mid-end feature phone. It has HVGA (640 x 240) screen resolution and 3D UI and Flash UI. The SC6800H also provides WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth connectivity. Compared to software for smartphones, feature phones' softwares are often less powerful. Though smartphones are overtaking the feature phones, many people still prefer feature phones, which is very easy to operate than the smartphones. At the same time, there are many consumers who feel that smartphones are complex and it has many extra features or application that are not needed. With the new chip, the Chinese company is trying to get rid of the problem that a feature phone faces and using the chip it will have almost the same power like smartphones.
