Now copy your brain on computers
| |
Thiruvananthapuram: Now, Swiss scientists and PIT Solution, a little-heard of IT startup in Technopark in Kerala will be working on the Blue Brain Project, the world's first comprehensive attempt to reverse-engineer the mammalian brain, reports Financial Express.
The $3 billion project is expected to be completed by 2018, said Brain Mind Institute of Swiss Federal Institute Director Henry Markram to Financial Express. The project is billed as an attempt to build a computerized copy of a brain - starting with a rat's brain, and then progressing to a human brain-inside one of the world's most powerful computers. It is an international project, propelled by Swiss Federal Institute, and involves several countries and ethics monitoring by UN bodies. India is yet to be part of the project.

The immediate purpose is to understand brain function and dysfunction through detailed simulations. "The study of rhodent brain has given us a template to build on. This would help in unraveling human brain," says Markram. "The whole idea is that mental illness, memory and perception triggered by neurons and electric signals could be soon treated with a supercomputer that models all the 1,000,000 million synapses of brain."
The key finding is that irrespective of gender and race, human brains are basically identical. "We will be able to map the differentiations by nuancing the patterns later. The exciting part is not how different we are but how similar we all are," says Markram.

nobody has understand its whole functions as
well as entire use in daily i.e. conscious
mind, sub conscious mind & unconscious
mind & no control is possible for science
on these situations. Its copy can not be
possible alone material science. It will can
be possible if material science &

My brain is literally empty. No computer could ever discover even a single thought. I understand the anatomy and physiology and the functions of human brain. I had several brain scans. My brain has no thought contents that could be copied on computers.I would give you a Money Back Guarantee if you could copy my brain.

we have a really long way to go. The doubts
and loopholes are innumerable, but just
imagine this: about 100 years ago, who could
have envisaged the working of wireless
phones, even the concept of internet. The
world has changed drastically in the past
century, more than it has changed in any
century. I think that the speed of this
change is just going to increase from now
on...we cannot predict what the future will
be. It's our job to keep on trying our hand
at developing and building upon the
technology we have. That is the only way we
can keep up with what tomorrow is going to
bring. I laud the effort, wish them gud luck,
and hope to be associated with it in some way
or the other.

20: The attempt is laudable, though the success
on the whole of "duplicating every aspect of
brain function is really doubtful." Years of
Neural Network research which started with
this very same aim, has had only some
interesting fall-outs but no great
breakthroughs in creating an electronic
duplicate- esp as a representation on the
computer. The brain- animal or human is a
massively parallel system first of all-
building even the equivalent of a rodent
brain is going to be formidable if it has to
really function as a rat brain. The
equivalent of human brain going to be
combinatorially explosive and and
computationally intractable.

optimists of this project that its really a
very difficult thing to achieve in life as
there will always be something that will
remain away from the reach of we human's mind
though one day it will be possible to land on
different planet of a remote galaxy but its
understanding of human brain that will always
be remain hidden from us.Now i would like to
say to those pessimists that it is a human
nature and of course awarded by lord in the
highest heaven that once anything started by
a human with a great passion will always lead
to completion though not by same person but
purhaps by their successor. So dont think it's
never going to complete it will complete and
also it's sure that it will always be in the
favor of mankind and never against it.

On a more serious note: Man will always endeavor on things that take them away from day to day issues. There is not a single human endeavor that the man has ever finished. Hunger, poverty, inequality, separation, violence, education, preservation of nature, peaceful coexistence, ... all remain parts unfinished. That's part of God's bigger plan... always ready to create more problems and unable to solve them. More information does not necessarily equal more knowledge.

billion means approximately INR 15,000 crore.
When it comes to genetic mapping, cloning or
these kind of things, I am a big Zero. I do
not know anything. So I cannot comment on how
will this end up. But my query is that, when
it is believed that human being exploit only
3% of their brain's capacity, what will
happen here? When they say all human brains
are basically identical, will every person be
able to do every thing, right from running,
playing to building a space ship? Where will
be the competitive edge? This looks an absurd
idea for me. When a company in Kerala is
doing this, how do they say, India is not
part of it?

electronics but biotechnology..
because biology beats elctronics both in terms of sheer number
and duplicating capability along with variations.. plus very complex behavior of every element(neuron)... and millions of years of precision engg.so creating a highly complex system like brain electronically.. is goin to be very difficult....
unless we are able to engineer biological sytems and successfully program them....and by the way even if such a system was built..it would take an enormous amount of energy to copy functions of brain...compared to tat see how much our brain needs... just some complex nutrients(3 meals a day)...
