SALT LAKE CITY : Novell Inc is shifting the technical and maintenance support services for its Asia-Pacific (APAC) region operations to India . In an exclusive conversation with ET held on the eve of the Brainshare 2004 summit in Salt lake city, Novell Inc chairman & CEO Jack Messman said, “Novell made a mistake by not offshoring support services to India earlier. But now, we have a roadmap to shift the entire technical and maintenance support operations for our worldwide operations to India.” Along with its Indian joint venture partner Onward Technologies, that’s currently looking after the marketing operations of Novell Inc in India , it is setting up a new technical support team in Mumbai. This is expected to be operational by the beginning of May. Says Messman, “When global IT majors increasingly started offshoring operations to India, Novell Inc increasingly found it difficult to compete with them on price. Novell’s strategy to move its technical support services to India is part of its effort to achieve those cost-slicing benefits and provide better value proposition to its customers.” He adds, “The cost of running a technical support operation from India is 60% cheaper than running from the US . And if you look at the salaries alone, it’s just 20% of that paid in the US .” All the more reason to ride the great Indian BPO wave.
