Nokia unveils N97 touch screen phone

Barcelona: Nokia unveiled its flagship N97 model smartphone, which will hit the European markets in first half of 2009. N97 features include a 3.5-inch, up to 48 GB of storage, a Qwerty keyboard, 5-megapixel camera with a dual LED flash, A-GPS (Assisted Global Positioning System), HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access), 5 megapixel camera with high-quality Carl Zeiss optics and Wi-Fi. It is fully compatible with Nokia's Ovi Internet services that comprise the Nokia Music Store, Nokia Maps, and the N-Gage gaming platform. In addition, the N97's 16:9 wide screen display lets users to view Flash videos, play games, blog, chat, send texts and emails. This is Nokia's second touchscreen device in as many months, but it has already lost ground in the touch-screen market to other players like Apple and HTC. In Europe has drawn a lukewarm response from analysts. Its ailing position in the high end of the mobile phone market has worried investors and analysts as this was expected to weigh on the Finnish group's profit margins. The Nokia N97 smartphone will be available at a price of at $693 (approx Rs 34,850).
