BANGALORE: Global mobile handset manufacturer Nokia Wednesday expanded its research and development (R&D) centre in Bangalore by inaugurating a development centre here. The new centre, extending over 210,000 sq ft at the Prestige Tech Park in the IT corridor here, will focus on development work for software platforms, chipsets and high-end Nokia mobile devices, according to a press release. The Finnish mobile giant had set up this R&D centre in Bangalore, its largest site in India, in 2001 with the acquisition of Amber Networks. This centre serves as a platform for development of new applications and software for product development. Nokia has two additional R&D centres in India in Hyderabad and Mumbai. They are focused on next-generation packet-switched mobile technologies and communications solutions.
