Bangalore: It’s going to be an eventful week to Nokia Corp.'s Chief Executive Stephen Elop as he launched the new Lumia 900 Smartphone on a mission to regain the lost supremacy of the mobile phone giant in the US markets.

Elop launched the new high end Smartphone along with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Ralph de la Vega, president of AT&T Mobility at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Nokia plans to compete with Apple iPhones and Google powered Androids using Lumia and gain some share in the high end Smartphone market of the US, which currently the company has no presence.

Lumia will be available in coordination with AT&T, the second largest carrier in US. The initial orders for the Windows phone was low, which Nokia hope in the future, will increase as a result of tie up with AT&T.

Microsoft is also looking forward to the sales of the phone as it is the first one to use company’s next generation Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. Meanwhile Nokia sees the new model as a platform to attract developers & users and is counting on Windows to boost US sales and help it bring back the share.

Nokia had begun its attack on the US markets with the introduction of Lumia series of Smartphones back in Dec 2011. “The Lumia 900 is not only a great device, but it’s also about inspiring a great ecosystem, an ecosystem is more than just the apps. It’s more than the device. It’s more than the operating system” Elop said.
