New Delhi: Bharti Airtel, Indian mobile phone service operator, Monday said it has not yet decided on approaching Delhi High Court over the radio spectrum allocation issue. "No decision yet on approaching the (Delhi) High Court yet," Rajan Mittal, managing director of Bharti Enterprises, told reporters on the sidelines of a retail conference here organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci). The telecom tribunal last week lifted the restriction of allocating airwaves to telecommunications operators with new wireless licenses. The department of telecommunications can now start allocating radio spectrum to those who plan to roll out mobile phone services in new markets. This directive by the tribunal has benefited some of the GSM (global system of mobile communications) players such as Vodafone and Idea, who will get start-up spectrum of 6.2 MHz in six and two telecom circles, respectively. The only operator upset by the decision was Bharti Airtel, which wants much more spectrum to expand its services.
