New software center to help start-up firms

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: India's first technology park here is all set to start a state of the art software engineering and competency centre that will enable start-up firms to provide cost effective software development. The Technopark Software Engineering Competency Centre (TSECC) is being set up through a memorandum of understanding between Trivandrum's Technopark and Astra Infotech Pvt. Ltd, the channel partner of Rational Software Corporation (India) Pvt. Ltd. The TSECC will accelerate the awareness and adoption of cutting edge software engineering principles in the industry and academia in Kerala. Rajiv Vasudevan, chief executive officer of Technopark, told IANS: "As first-level information centre it will enable start-ups to manage successful software development ventures." TSECC will target the software development companies, the academic or research community and IT start-ups in Kerala. Said Kerala IT Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, who has been actively involved in the project implementation: "Technopark is at the forefront of the IT initiatives in Kerala. TSECC is the latest example of its continued pursuit of excellence." TSECC is reported to be a one-stop shop creating awareness to companies in different software engineering tools. Vasudevan said software engineering tools and services company Rational would enable freshly incubated units to improve the quality of their offerings and reduce cost of software development. "It will enable the creation of a ready pool of technical personnel familiar with the latest software engineering concepts and tools." Said M.K. Bharatee, country manager of Rational India: "In this joint initiative units have access to Rational tools and will be complemented by Rational certified professionals." Rational India will provide the library of Rational tools, solution samples, product demos, white papers and other necessary collateral. Its channel partner, Astra Infotech, will station two Rational certified professionals at the TSECC, responsible for the centre's operation and customer satisfaction. "Astra Infotech will showcase different value added services on Rational Products through periodic seminars and workshops," said Vipin Kumar, director of Astra Infotech. Spread over 156 acres, Technopark, which will house the TSECC, already houses 60 companies.
