New Indian supercomputer to be unveiled

BANGALORE: An indigenously developed supercomputer to create an "i-grid" across Indian institutes of excellence will be unveiled in December, a top government official has said.
Over a period of time, the C-DAC supercomputer's applications can be utilized in areas as diverse as atmospheric and oceanic studies, fluid dynamics to bio computing and nanotechnology, as well as the financial sector.
C-DAC, the Center for Development of Advanced Computing, is headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra. The C-DAC supercomputer will be unveiled on December 16.
"We are establishing an i-grid at a cost of 
1.3 billion with each of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science getting the one teraflop supercomputer," Indian IT secretary Rajeev Ratna Shah said.
