JAMMU: A comprehensive information technology policy is being framed for Jammu & Kashmir, the state's IT Minister Nawang Rigzin said. Discussing the modalities of the policy at a meeting on Tuesday, Rigzin said the coalition government wanted to spread IT by making its application universal in all areas of governance. Under the new policy, government would expand the arena of information technology to vital areas of industry, education, employment and health, he said. Rigzin said the government was making efforts to bring in economic transformation by offsetting the "depression created by the insensibility of the previous regime." The new policy envisaged broad use of IT in the industrial sector for gaining competitive advantage, generating additional revenue and diversifying local industries, he said. Referring to the use of IT in the health sector, he said tele-medicine had become a reality in Jammu & Kashmir with linkages afforded by IT.
