BANGALORE: Network General Corporation (NGC), a provider in the U.S. of IT management solutions, is set to expand its India operations to develop new versions of its product range and cater to the Asia-Pacific region as well as the domestic market. "As the largest product development center outside the U.S., our Indian subsidiary in Bangalore accounts for about 60 percent of our development resources worldwide. We are investing another $10 million over the next 18 months to expand the development and R&D facilities to roll out a suite of new products and solutions," said Network General CEO Bill Gibson. The 22-year-old NGC provides software solutions and intelligent applications that monitor and manage all elements of IT infrastructure, including network devices, applications and servers. Its 100-strong team of Indian engineers here developed some of its flagship products like Sniffer Administrator, Visualizer and Portable. The company's other two product development centres are located at San Jose and Utah in the US, with combined staff strength of 63 engineers. About 20 percent of its annual budget is invested in R&D operations. In the last 12 months, the company invested $10 million to set up its India operations. "With technology advancements, simple networks have given way to complicated and distributed business models. To overcome the challenge of correcting critical business-related problems, enterprises maintain two IT management solutions -- one for network monitoring and another for application monitoring. We offer a seamless integration of the two to keep the IT service levels running at their peak," Gibson said. For the Indian market, the privately held company has launched Network Intelligence suite and networkDNA Architecture, which provide an end-to-end correlated view of performance and availability of critical business services. "Besides telecom providers, a number of enterprises in the banking & financial services, stock market like the BSE and NSDL and retail chains like Tesco have been using our products. To enlarge our client base, we are targeting public sector enterprises (PSEs), government organizations and manufacturing firms by strengthening our marketing team," Gibson disclosed. With IT spending in the APAC region ahead of similar investments in Europe and the US, the company has decided to ramp up its engineering team in India to 200 in the next 12-18 months and extend its service support to customers in the region. "As the enterprises in the APAC region do not have legacy issues to tackle, they are at an advantage to adopt the new generation of IT solutions with robust infrastructure networks," Gibson added.
