Nehru Planetarium to organise public skywatch

New Delhi: Ever look up and marvel at the beauty of the evening sky? Skygazers in the national capital now have the opportunity of studying celestial bodies as the Nehru Planetarium is organising round the year public skywatches, officials said Monday. As part of International Year of Astronomy, the Nehru Planetarium will organise skywatching for the public besides series of lectures by noted astrophysicists and scholars in 2009. The planetarium will place telescopes on some selected days every month for people to come and watch the evening sky. Experts will be present to guide the public in skygazing. "This will give an opportunity to more people to view celestial objects through at least some moderate aperture telescopes, and rediscover for themselves the celestial bodies," Nehru Planetarium director N. Rathnasree said. The Nehru Planetarium, in collaboration with an NGO, the Science Popularisation Association of Communicators and Educators (SPACE), will conduct these evening skywatches. "The first skywatch will be conducted Feb 4 and people interested in participating can contact the planetarium for more details," Rathnasree said.
