MUMBAI: National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), the apex body of the information technology sector, is planning to open a regional centre in Chennai and another in the eastern region of the country. "We have identified a location in Chennai and are looking for a person to handle the proposed centre," Nasscom President Kiran Karnik said on Sunday. The centre would work closely with both the state government and industry to formulate IT policies, fighting piracy and helping in building a brand equity for Indian IT software and services industry, he said. This would be the association's fourth regional centre in the country, with others being located at Bangalore , Hyderabad and Mumbai. The apex body, which is headquartered in Delhi , is also planning to set up another centre in the eastern region, which "most probably would be in Kolkata," he said. However, a final decision on this is yet to be taken, he added.
