BANGALORE: The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) has ruled out unionization of the IT and ITeS industry and said that unionism in the sector will not succeed as there is no need for such an initiative. Nasscom President Kiran Karnik said “Employees in the IT and ITeS sector do not need any external intervention as they are looked after very well.” The communist backed Center for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Monday said it wanted to set up India’s first union to represent over 500,000 workers employed by the IT and ITeS industry. The union is expected to address specific problems of such workers who are not governed by the present labor laws. “It is not a good move and I don’t think it would succeed,” Karnik said adding “The employees who think of themselves as the CEOs of the future may not support it.”
