HYDERABAD: IT lobby National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) opened its regional office here Thursday. The Hyderabad office, the third in the country after Mumbai and Bangalore, is expected to strengthen Nasscom's role as a catalyst for the growth of India's IT industry. Inaugurating the office, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu urged Nasscom to shift its headquarters from Delhi to Hyderabad as the city has emerged as the "most important" IT destination in India. He hoped that the new office would liaison more closely with the IT players of the state and help in catering to the marketing needs of small and medium enterprises. He asked Nasscom to emphasize on IT enabled services (ITES), organize industry talks from time to time with high level dignitaries visiting India, lead delegations from Andhra Pradesh to various IT markets across the globe, and bring international delegations to Hyderabad. Naidu pointed out that the state offered huge growth potential in ITES and business process outsourcing (BPO) sectors. Delhi based Nasscom's 850 member companies collectively contribute more than 95 percent of the revenues of the Indian software industry. Naidu said the state government wanted to develop Hyderabad as a knowledge hub. It would be developed in 20-square kilometer area between the Indian School of Business near Hyderabad Information Technology Consultancy (HITEC) City and the proposed international airport. The area already houses the Indian Institute of Information Technology and an Infosys development center. Nasscom President Kiran Karnik said the opening of the Nasscom office here would help in serving member companies and enable interaction with the state government to catalyze new initiatives.
