Bangalore: A well-known US Indian gastroenterologist will be leaving his position in the US and returning to India. He intends to start a hospital in India, which will be equipped with nearly 600 beds. The increasing regulations in the US and global recession are the major reasons compelling the doctor to quit the job.

More than thousands of Indian doctors and Medical Graduates in United Kingdom have also decided to seek jobs in India.

Dr Ramesh Mehta, Secretary-General of GAPIO (Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) foresees symptoms of brain-drain in the reverse manner from UK to India, as about one-fourth of 40,000 doctors working in National Health Services in UK will be resigning shortly.

“New generation doctors are not finding jobs because of recession. They are looking at India jobs. New colleges and institutes are coming up here and they might need experienced people. Those who aspire for the best positions and not getting them too are trying to come back,” Dr Mehta said. India is in need of doctors badly, on the other hand. “It is short of six lakh doctors and 10,000 nurses,” he said, indicating that the reverse brain drain will prove to be beneficial for the country.

Lately, Kelly Services reckoned that about three lakh Indian professionals (working in various streams) are expected to return back to their native land in the next five years. Kelly services is an organization which traces the migration of human resources around the world.

There are numerous Indian doctors who are settled abroad, in countries such as US, UK, Australia and New Zealand .They will have to go through certain formalities regarding the acceptability of their certificates before getting placed in an Indian hospital, which will take time.
