Bangalore: NRI artists find it very difficult to get best opening for their performance during the music season in Chennai. They feel that audiences do not give any serious concern to them as they are in the city at the time of music season only. Even the organizers doubt the efficiency of NRI artists. They suspect whether NRI artists are suitable for the performance as they do not realize the talents of these artists.

NRI’s are not given much importance and they are made to wait for their chance on the stage. On the contrary, local artists get prime slots for their performances. As a solution to this problem, Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS) and carnaticradio.com has started an NRI Festival to provide opportunities to their students to exhibit their talent. SIFAS was founded in the year 1949 and has completed 61 years of establishment. But, most students who get out of SIFAS doesn’t get a chance to perform in the music season in Chennai.

According to musician Sushma Somasekaran, ''If you don’t perform here during the season, you don’t get recognized in the music world. The special fest is a way to be heard during the season.’’ But since one has to wait for a long period of time, majority of the students go for other professions after abandoning music.

Sushma Somashekaran also suggests that for people who seriously look forward for a career in Carnatic music, it is better to relocate to Chennai. Chennai provides favourable circumstances to build a career in Carnatic music and one can expect numerous opportunities in this city.
