NIIT ties up with Indian university for IT training

NEW DELHI: NIIT Ltd., one of India's leading computer training and software development companies, Friday announced its tie-up with a university in Madhya Pradesh to offer higher education in IT. As part of the agreement, NIIT and the Rajiv Gandhi Technical University (RGTU) will offer an "industry-relevant" bachelor's degree in software engineering, said Rajendra Pawar, chairman of NIIT Ltd. The programme will be available in 11 cities in India starting next month and it will also be offered in seven other countries in the initial phase, Pawar told a press conference here. The seven countries where the four-year degree course will be offered are Bangladesh, Ghana, Mauritius, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Yemen. In India, the programme will be offered at NIIT education centres in Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Chennai, New Delhi, Guwahati, Jammu, Meerut, Mumbai, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam. "While NIIT brings its strengths in providing skills in contemporary areas of technology, RGTU will help develop a good theoretical foundation and knowledge base," said Pawar. The tie-up will allow NIIT students who have completed the institutes' two-year DNIIT programme to get lateral entry into the fifth semester of RGTU's degree in software engineering. "This alliance will leverage NIIT's vast experience in instructional design, content development and education delivery to extend the reach of our degree programme in software engineering," said S.C. Chaturvedi, vice chancellor of RGTU. NIIT, which is based in New Delhi, operates in 44 countries, providing computer training and software solutions to customers in Asia Pacific, Europe, India, Japan and the U.S.
