NEW DELHI: NIIT, the leading global IT education, training and software major, plans to open 150 centres in China to train corporates. "We are planning substantial investment in China to set up 150 education centres, which are most probably going to be joint ventures," Nirmalya Banerjee, general manager (Marketing) of NIIT Technologies, told IANS on the sidelines of an investors meet organised Friday by the Confederation of Indian Industry for a 53-member Chinese delegation. "Through the education centres we are moving into training corporates in China. We have already set the process into motion with training programmes," said Banerjee. Refusing to divulge the investment being made for the expansion of the company, which has had a presence in China for the last six years, the official said in keeping with the global experts projection of China emerging as a major base for Indian software companies, NIIT expects to be one of them. "We see China as a major growth centre for our company contributing substantially to our global revenues in the coming years," said Banerjee. On possible competition with China expected to come at par with Indian software exports by 2006, the official stressed: "We see tremendous synergy for companies from both countries to cooperate and become centres for outsourcing services. In fact, a presence in China could help Indian companies to directly provide services in markets like Japan and South Korea, in addition to the huge local demand." NIIT, which operates in 44 countries providing training, software and knowledge solutions, is currently among half a dozen Indian IT companies with operations in China.
