NIIT  Rajendra S. Pawar and TCS Chandra at NASSCOM
New Delhi: NASSCOM has come out with two big announcements. It said, Rajendra S. Pawar has been named the new Chairman of its Executive Council and N. Chandrasekaran, CEO and MD of Tata Consultancy Services as the Vice Chairman for the year 2011 -12. Pawar succeeds Accenture's Harsh Manglik as Chairman of Nasscom. He will take on his new role with effect from April 26, 2011. Harsh Manglik was named chairman of its executive council in April 2010 for the year 2010-11. Harsh Manglik said it has been an honor and a privilege to lead the industry as chairman of NASSCOM. As the chairman of NASSCOM Pawar will have the responsibility to lead and assist Nasscom in catalysing the growth of the Indian IT-BPO industry and enabling the fulfillment of its future goals and aspirations. Rajendra S. Pawar has been a Member of NASSCOM. He co-founded NIIT along with his batch-mate Vijay K. Thadani and with the active support of Shiv Nadar. He is currently the Chairman of NIIT. He is a distinguished alumnus of Scindia School, Gwalior and Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2011. N. Chandrasekaran took over CEO of TCS on October 6, 2009. N.Chandrasekaran is known as chandra by industry people. With this he became the youngest CEO of TCS group at 46. After completing his Masters in Computer Applications from Regional Engineering College Tamil Nadu in 1986, he joined TCS in 1987. He has pioneered the creation of unique Global Network Delivery Model across five continents and ventured into new markets including Europe, China and Latin America. It added new business lines like BPO, Infrastructure and Assurance services. Commenting on the occasion Pawar said that Indian industry has recorded good growth and hence NASSCOM will now look to improve the competitiveness among them. He said that the association will also work towards engaging industry members, state and central government to drive IT adoption in the country. He added that factors that need to be focused on include skills development and growth of small and medium enterprises. These enterprises occupy a dominant role in Indian economy and contribute in achieving the objective of inclusive growth. Hence the focus will be on the on the development of SME to bring about broad-based economic growth. Welcoming Pawar to the council, NASSCOM President Som Mittal said that a visionary entrepreneur like Pawar will bring his valueable experience to the organization and will a play a prominent part in formulating future growth strategies and ensure adequate policy support to keep the momentum strong.
