NIIT SmartServe expands BPO activity in the U.S.

ATLANTA: NIIT SmartServe, a provider of business process outsourcing, has named Frank Pantano vice president in charge of U.S. business development. "NIIT SmartServe is gaining traction as a BPO leader in other parts of the world, and we are now turning our attention to the U.S. market," said R Venkatesh Iyer, president of NIIT SmartServe. NIIT SmartServe, a subsidiary of global IT services provider NIIT Limited, specializes in back-office processes such as customer support, telemarketing, application processing, claim processing, financial accounting and remote learning, among others. NIIT SmartServe covers a number of industries including insurance, financial services, health care, transportation, retail, education and technology. NIIT SmartServe offers BPO through onsite teams or through its offshore operation in India. NIIT SmartServe landed its first major contract in October, winning a $10 million order from Misys Independent Financial Advisory Services plc, a UK- based provider of software products for the banking and health-care industries. Under the five-year deal, NIIT SmartServe will run several Misys business processes out of a new 560-seat facility near New Delhi. Pantano comes to NIIT SmartServe from Computer Sciences Corp.. During his 13 years with CSC., Pantano helped the company orchestrate a significant operational turnaround, contributing $550 million in new revenue and establishing the company's first offshore facility. Prior to his time with Computer Sciences, Pantano managed customer service operations for American Express' card division. He started his management career with AdvancePCS, then a division of McKesson Corp., where he implemented the company's first automated sales-tracking system.
