This is the first formal presence of the IT industry association, internationally. The NASSCOM UK chapter will be based at Hill & Knowlton office, the international public relations and public affairs company in London. Speaking at the launch of the Chapter, Kiran Karnik, President, NASSCOM, said, "With the globalisation of the Indian software and service industry there was an increased realization to have a NASSCOM presence in UK and hence are delighted to have a NASSCOM Chapter opened in UK. The chapter aims to serve as the voice of NASSCOM in UK and the adjoining region, raise awareness about Indian IT industry advantages and its high quality image." The NASSCOM UK Chapter will represent its members in UK and the adjoining region and strengthen the relationship with the other industry representative bodies and Government organizations. It will also offer a platform to NASSCOM members to share ideas and best practices. The chapter will be one-point contact for UK companies, planning to outsource their software and services requirements to an offshore location. The Chapter will also act as a catalyst for Indian companies looking to set up offices in UK. UK is an important destination for the Indian IT industry with 14 percent of the Indian software and service exports coming from the region. It also serves, as a gateway to other European countries and hopefully the NASSCOM UK chapter will help further catalyze the initiative. Karnik further added, "The UK chapter will work closely with the Indian Embassy / Mission based in UK to resolve issues / concerns that act as an impediment in the growth of our member companies in the region."
