Mystery machine links New York, London

London: New York and London have been connected by "telectroscope" - a mystery machine that allows the two cities to "see" each other, apparently using a long-lost tunnel. The machine also allows people to send messages to each other in real time. At its opening Thursday, people gathered on both sides of the Atlantic to watch each other on large glass screens. The machine is the invention of London artist Paul St George, the New York Post reported. St George contends that the machine utilises a tunnel between the countries that was started by his great grandfather. Others behind the machine say that it uses "fibre optic" communication to link the two cities. "Hardly anyone knows that a secret tunnel runs deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean," the telectroscope website says. The website also includes a history of the project, facts about the disused tunnel and when work on it was restarted. The site claims St George found notebooks, drawings and other plans in his grandmother's attic that led him to discover the tunnel and the potential of the telectroscope. The telectroscopes will be on view on both sides of the Atlantic until June 15.
