Mumbai: A studio in a western suburb of Mumbai, where a number of television serials are shot, was partially damaged in a fire that broke out in an adjacent industrial unit, officials said Tuesday. The Future Studio at Goregaon East suffered damage when a blaze broke out in the nearby Jaipan Industry unit late Monday night due to a short circuit, said Mona Kapoor, the co-owner of the studio. "We had taken two floors of the Jaipan industry building on rent recently and modified it as a part of our studio. Recently, we had renovated this part, adding extra décor to it. This part of the studio was gutted in fire," said Mona, former wife of producer Boney Kapoor. She, however, refused to divulge the financial losses incurred in the fire. According to the fire brigade, the total damage caused by fire could be estimated at 3 million. Jaipan industry manufactures household goods. At the time the fire broke out in the industrial unit, shooting for TV serial "Rakhi" was in progress on the floors hired by Future Studio. Future Studio is one of the most sought-after studios among TV producers as it has ready-made sets to suit locales needed for all kinds of serials, besides other amenities. About 60 percent of TV serials beamed at any given time on Hindi entertainment channels are shot in Future Studio, which has in-built fire-fighting measures.
