NEW DELHI: MphasiS BFL, an information technology services company based in New York, is starting a new business process outsourcing (BPO) centre in Mangalore, Karnataka, a top official said here Wednesday. "The new centre should become operational soon and be full-fledged before the financial year is over," Jerry Rao, MphasiS chairman, told reporters on the sidelines of an Indo-US cyber security conference. The centre, to be set up by the company's BPO subsidiary MsourcE, would eventually have about 2,000 seats, said Rao who is also the chairman of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom). The Mangalore facility will be MsourcE's third centre in India after Bangalore and Pune, which together have some 5,000 BPO seats. The company's other BPO centres are in China and Mexico. Rao, who was a high-ranking official with CitiCorp before founding MphasiS, said the company was also trying to take its BPO operations to a new level by writing software for clients to improve operational efficiency. "I am quite excited about this new development in the BPO area, though this job as such is not a big one," he said. "But once the platform is there, we should be able to replicate it."
