Bangalore: Motorola has announced that it is going to acquire Good Technology, a software firm that provides the mobile email application on its "Q" smart phone and on many other competing devices. The company believes that this move will help Motorola gain more customers among mobile professionals who need enterprise-level security and management. Ron Garriques, President of the Mobile Devices Division, Motorola, said that this acquisition would continue to strengthen Motorola as a leading provider of mobility devices and solutions both for enterprise customers and consumers. In the long run, Motorola could reach new customers outside its usual business users, by extending Good Technology s software to power mobile applications beyond email. It is also learnt that Motorola could use the acquisition to pressure its rivals that also use this popular technology. Besides, the deal will give Motorola direct access to technology that could help it compete with Research in Motion s BlackBerry among corporate users of mobile email. According to Juli Burda, a Motorola spokeswoman, Good Technology's offerings will not be limited to Motorola. Motorola will build upon Good Technology's customer and carrier relationships by maintaining its multi-device strategy.
