SAN MATEO: Bobby Mukherjee founded Moonlight Systems announced on Friday that it has $5 million in venture funding to build its market for Fortune 2000 customers. Moonlight provides software for business-critical application deployment and server configuration management. BA Venture Partners and Bay Partners co-led the round with participation from other private investors, bringing the total invested capital to over $19 million. In addition, Moonlight announced that John Lambert, a 24-year industry veteran, joined Moonlight as its president and CEO. John joined Moonlight from Rational Software, where he was the Vice President and General Manger of their Developer Solutions division. Over a 15-year period, John held a series of general management positions within Rational, and was the founding employee of Rational's UK operation. John earned his Ph.D. in computer science from University of Sussex. John joins the existing board membership. "We are very excited by the opportunity Moonlight addresses," said Rory O'Driscoll of BA Venture Partners. "The wide adoption of distributed computing has created an enormous requirement for cost effective server management, one of the few growth areas in the current IT marketplace. Moonlight is well positioned to lower operational costs and increase the precision and robustness of server management. I am delighted to have added John Lambert's experience, industry connections, and management depth to Moonlight as they address this exciting market." Bobby Mukherjee, founder of Moonlight Systems, will remain Chairman of the Board of directors. The company also announced the appointment of Brian DeGonia as Moonlight's Senior Director of Marketing. Brian has more than 18 years of marketing and field technical experience in tools and enterprise applications at Rational Software, Lycos, and Pure Software.
