NEW DELHI: The mobile growth rate in India is faster than that of China, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), when compared to the subscriber growth levels in the initial years in the two countries. The regulator said that though China was ahead of India by seven years by launching its first cellular network in 1988, India caught up with China in terms of new cellular subscribers being added every month. “China has been adding 4-5 million mobile subscribers a month in the last five years. India has also achieved this landmark in December 2005 when the mobile subscribers addition reached around 4.5 million in a single month for the first time since the launch of mobile services in 1995. Performance of Indian mobile sector is better than China if we compare the first 11 years of India,” according to the TRAI statement.
