Mission IT: Pak wants to replicate Indian success stories

NEW DELHI: In a first of its kind initiative, a 20-member IT delegation from Pakistan will visit India next month to participate in a high-profile industry seminar, the organisers said Saturday. Nasscom, the National Association of Software and Service Companies, India's premier IT industry umbrella group, said the Pakistani delegation would attend the four-day India Leadership Forum beginning in Mumbai February 3. Jehan Ara, president of the Pakistan Software Houses Association, will lead the delegation, said a Nasscom statement. Representatives of leading Pakistani IT firms like Millennium Systems, Autosoft Dynamics, Sunsoft, iWays, Datanet, Arwin Technologies, Enabling Technologies, Kontact Limited, and OraTech will be part of the visiting team. The delegation will also visit "few other key IT cities in India" to meet officials of major IT companies, said the Nasscom statement. "We are looking forward to increasing bilateral initiatives between the two countries in the field of IT," said Nasscom president Kiran Karnik. "This is the first ever IT delegation from Pakistan to visit India and taking this association forward. Nasscom will be taking an Indian IT delegation to Pakistan later this year," he added. Said Pakistan's Ara: "The software industry is growing at an enormous pace in Pakistan and our endeavour is to make the industry's presence felt, both nationally and internationally. "This visit aims to enhance business opportunities and also help to put together a framework of co-operation for continuous interaction between the two countries in the IT sector." According to Nasscom, the purpose of the Pakistani IT team's visit is not only to explore and cultivate IT trade opportunities but also share Indian IT companies success and experience in providing high quality services. The Pakistan software industry is in its infancy with approximate revenue earnings of $50 million. Most of the companies are small to medium sized, with a small percentage of big players, whose total concentration is in the export of software and IT enabled services.
